To encourage more women to get involved in the beautiful game, a new initiative has been launched to run FA Snickers Just Play sessions alongside Weetabix Wildcats sessions.
Just Play is a ‘jumpers for goalposts’ version of the game for women of all ages and abilities to try football for the first time, or return to the game having not played for years. As with any recreational football kickabout, it can be adapted to suit the needs of the participants, is commitment free and can be pretty much any format of the game.
The idea to run it concurrently with the non-competitive Weetabix Wildcats sessions is to break down barriers to participation for mums and guardians, helping overcome obstacles such as childcare and time constraints.
The pilot has been successfully trailed at AdWick Warriors in Doncaster, with 10-20 women attending their session every week. It will also soon be extended to the Barnsley area in March at Barnsley Women FC.
See below for more details and to find how to book onto the sessions.

With the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA constantly seeking new ways to attract and engage different audiences in football participation, this initiative was put into action after receiving feedback from women not currently playing football that they wanted a football offer that fitted around their routine and commitments.
We plan to continue to develop this format across both the adult and youth game throughout the county. If you feel your club or organisation could benefit from this initiative, then please get in touch by emailing us at Support@sheffieldfa.com
