Sheffield & Hallamshire CFA Statement

Statement issued in relation to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County Football Association Women’s County Cup Final

The Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA would like to clarify the timeline of events that has resulted in the rescheduling of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s County Cup Final 2022.

The Women’s County Cup Final was provisionally scheduled to take place on Sunday 24th April (7:30pm kick-off) at the Eco-Power Stadium, the home of Doncaster Rovers FC.

On Sunday 6th March, Huddersfield Town Women FC reached the FA Women's National League Cup final which was also set to take place on Sunday 24thApril.

Huddersfield Town Women FC, the only confirmed finalists at the time, made a request to the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA, to reschedule the Women’s County Cup Final.

An alternative date of Saturday 30th April (10:30am kick-off) was agreed. This was the only available date at the Eco-Power stadium. All teams remaining in the competition were informed of the new date accordingly.

Prior to their semi-final fixture, the officials of Barnsley Women’s FC made a request to the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA for the Women’s County Cup final tie to be rescheduled should they reach the final. Barnsley Women’s FC were informed at that time that all County Cup final matches needed to be played within the match slots available at the final’s venue. Therefore, the final would take place on the 30th April.

On 10th April 2022, Barnsley Women’s FC won their semi-final fixture to progress to the final. This meant that Barnsley Women FC would need to fulfil fixtures on consecutive days. The timing of fixtures i.e. a morning followed by an afternoon kick off the next day allowed for this within the relevant rules. The club had been made aware of this prior to playing the semi-final fixture.

However, following a request from Barnsley Women’s FC to avoid playing matches on consecutive days their Women’s National League match was subsequently rescheduled by the League to help ease fixture congestion.

On the 18th April 2022, Barnsley Women’s FC made another request to the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA for their Women’s County Cup final tie to be rescheduled. Unfortunately, there was no alternative date available at the final’s venue.  Therefore, reluctantly the Sheffield and Hallamshire County FA rejected this request.
