Off the Pitch Opportunities
Working with a league
Leagues provide the competition structures for grassroots teams to play weekly fixtures. Most leagues are run by volunteers and are often on the look out for new people to join their committees.
All leagues will have a group of volunteer committee members who have varying key roles which enable players to play the game in a fun, safe, competitive, and inclusive environment.
What roles are involved?
There are many roles that you can get involved in within a league, which include;
• Administration
• Technology
• Football Development
• Marketing and communication
• Player liaison
• Safeguarding and welfare
• Financial management
• Referee appointments
• Sponsorship
What do you need for these roles?
There are no formal qualifications required for these roles but it’s important that you understand the ethos of the league and the clubs/teams it provides opportunities for.
You will need to have good communication and organisation skills. You will need to be passionate about player development and understand the need to create the right environment for players and teams.

Most clubs are run by volunteers and are often on the lookout for new people to join their committees.
There is a lot of great work that takes place in the background to ensure that players have access to suitable facilities, qualified coaches, and safe football sessions. This is usually taken care of by club volunteers.
