Schoolgirls to recreate mini EURO 2022 tournament at Sheffield Utd game this weekend

Girls from Sheffield United’s Community Foundation will take part in their own mini EURO 2022 football tournament at Bramall Lane this weekend as preparations get underway for the start of UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 this summer.

Members of the foundation’s U8's and U9's teams will be representing four of the leading nations at this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 which take place in England.

Sheffield is one of nine cities across England that will play home to 31 UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 matches in just 26 action-packed days from 6-31 July.

A record number of fans are set to attend in person with a further 250 million across the world watching the action unfold on TV. It promises to be the biggest women’s European sporting event in history.

Three Group Stage games will be played at Bramall Lane, home of Sheffield United, on Saturday 9 July (Holland v Sweden, KO 8pm), Wednesday 13 July (Sweden v Switzerland, KO 5pm) and Sunday 17 July (Switzerland v Netherlands, KO 5pm).

Bramall Lane will also host the first semi-final of the tournament on Tuesday, 26 July (KO 8pm), which if all goes to plan could see host nation England playing in Sheffield.

The mini tournament will take place on the pitch during half time of the Sheffield United v Reading on Saturday (April 15). It is the first in a series of events taking place across Sheffield over the next few months ahead of the tournament’s kick off on July 6.
