Basic Referees Course.

Course Information: Minimum Age: 14 Minimum Age: 14

Course Duration: 20 hours, plus six games

Who is it for: Ideally suited to those wanting to become a referee involved in the 11-a-side game, both in youth and adult football.

Course aims and objectives: This course will provide an introduction to the laws of the game, (11-a-side) as well as developing the practical skills required to be a football referee.

Course Content: The course is run over a number of sessions, including the completion of six matches as a trainee referee.

The course covers both theoretical and practical elements.

Module 1 - Introduction

This module will involve

  • Paperwork 
  • Safeguarding Children advise 
  • CRB Advice

Module 2 - Laws of the Game

This module will involve

  • Laws of the Game 
  • The role of the Referee 
  • Consider the skills required to be a Referee

Module 3 - Practical Element

This module will involve

  • Positioning & movement at both set pieces & in open play 
  • Managing game situations 
  • Signals & communication techniques

Module 4 - Examination

Both a multiple choice examination paper and a practical on field assessment are used to establish theory & practical knowledge

  • Written Examination. (30 minutes)
  • Practical Examination.

Module 5 - Refereeing

  • Six games are used to establish both the knowledge as well as the practicalities of refereeing. 
  • Games to be observed where possible.
