Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA affiliate a number of youth leagues, which range from mini-soccer right up to the traditional 11-a-side game.
Mini-soccer is the starting point for children up to and including ten-years-old. This format of football is played using smaller pitches, smaller goals and smaller balls to make it more appropriate and more enjoyable for the children. Mini-soccer is loved by both boys and girls, with Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA encouraging coaches to give children equal playing time regardless of ability.
The 9v9 format is a new concept, which aims to bridge the gap between mini-soccer and 11-a-side football and provide an easier transition between the two and is being played by U11's and U12's.
9v9 uses smaller pitches and smaller goals and ensures that players get more touches of the ball than in 11-a-side, whilst goalkeepers can enjoy playing in a net that is more suitable to their height.
From then, youngsters can emulate their heroes and enjoy the traditional 11-a-side game. With games lasting 35 minutes each half for U13s and U14s, 40 minutes for U15s and U16s and the adult-like 45 minutes for U17s and U18s.
