5-a-side World Cup teenage tournament coming to Doncaster this July

Mixed-gender teams wanted – sign up today!

To coincide with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, which is taking place in Australia and New Zealand this summer, Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA is hosting a World Cup themed 5-a-side tournament at De Warenne Academy in Doncaster.

We’re inviting mixed gender teams with players aged 15 to 16 to take part in a six-week-long tournament that kicks off on Thursday 20th July. Each team will be assigned a country and compete against each other on a brand-new FA Standard 3G pitch, with some great prizes up for grabs. 

So whether you fancy your chances of winning our first-ever 5-a-side World Cup or you just want to have some fun with your mates, get involved and sign your team up today.

Who can take part?
This is a mixed gender tournament and is only for people aged 15 to 16.

What are the rules?

  • Each team can have a squad of up to 8 players on matchdays, which must include a minimum of three female players.
  • The matches are 5v5 and each half will last 20 minutes (40 minutes in total).
  • The tournament will take place over six weeks.

Why should I get involved?

  • You’ll get to play on a state-of-the-art brand-new FA standard 3G pitch
  • All fixtures will have a FA Registered referee.
  • You’ll represent one of the 32 teams at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, mirroring the format of the prestigious competition by competing in a group stage followed by the knockout stage.
  • If your team gets knocked out of the competition, you’ll still be able to keep playing over the course of the 6 week tournament.
  • You could win an England shirt in our FIFA Women’s World Cup Sweepstake.
  •  Each player on the overall winning team will receive a £30 Meadowhall shopping voucher.

When does the tournament take place?
The tournament will run from Thursday 20th July to Thursday 24th August (six weeks), with matches taking place every Thursday between 6pm and 8pm.

Where will it take place?
The tournament will be held at De Warenne Academy, Gardens Lane, Conisbrough, Doncaster DN12 3JY.

The facility is just a 10-minute walk from Conisbrough Station and is also accessible via the 221 bus route. 

How much does it cost to enter?
The cost to enter a team is £120, which works out at just £2.50 per player per week for a team of eight. 

Not got a team? Individuals can also enter at a cost of £15 and will be assigned a team.
