Neurodiversity Awareness Training workshop

Tuesday 19th July, 6.30pm - 8.30pm, at SGP Westfield.

Grassroots volunteers in our region can now register for our upcoming Neurodiversity Awareness Training workshop.

The workshop, which will be delivered by Rachael Habergham and Emily Rowles from Kiveton Park FC, will take place on Tuesday 19th July at SGP Westfield.

What is Neurodiversity?
Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one ‘right’ way of thinking, learning and behaving and that differences are not viewed as deficits.

The word neurodiversity refers to the diversity of all people but is often used in the context of the autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as other neurological or developmental conditions such as ADHD or learning Disabilities.

Some estimates suggest that around twenty percent of the population could be neurodivergent in one way or another.

We invite volunteers from clubs across our region to sign up for this workshop to help better understand how to support neurodiverse players within your clubs.

We recommend coaches with players that are neurodivergent join us for the training to help ensure that you feel you have the knowledge and understanding to ensure that every player within your team gets the opportunity to have fun, make friends, learn different skills and develop a lifelong love for the game.

What can attendees expect to take away?
At the end of the session, you will have increased awareness of:

  • Neurodiversity and the conditions that are covered.
  • The impact some of the activities at a football club can have on a neurodiverse individual.
  • The changes you can make to improve inclusivity for neurodiverse individuals at your club.
