SHCFA announce new SSE Wildcats Centres starting this Spring

Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA are delighted to announce that there are additional new SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres starting this Spring.

The SSE Wildcats Centre concept was introduced in 2017 to provide a platform for new girls to get involved in a football in a fun and friendly environment.  This year sees over 30 Wildcats Centres across South Yorkshire for girls aged 5-11 years old.

“The aim is simple; Have fun, make friends, play football!”

A Wildcats Centre is an opportunity for young girls to have fun, develop fundamental skills, and try a variety of sessions.  Sessions are delivered on a weekly basis, either after school or at weekends.

Centres are being delivered through grassroots football clubs, schools, community trusts and local organisations with FA qualified coaches.  Each Wildcats Centre is linked to a local girls’ football club where pathways are in place for girls who want to progress into a club environment.

Take a look at our SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres via our interactive map.  To register a child, please email the relevant organisation.  All sessions will commence March or April 2018.

Sarah Wood, Football Development Manager, said “It’s fantastic that we have so many opportunities across the county for girls to get involved in football.  It’s a pressure free environment where girls can learn and enjoy football with their friends.  The Wildcats Centres are a great place for young girls to start their football journey and who knows, one day they could become the next England Lioness!”

Girls can get involved in Wildcats at any point during the year.  Just simply contact any Wildcats Centre and find out whether they have spaces available.  All girls will need to register – this might be done beforehand or when you arrive at the session.  For further information about any Wildcats Centre contact Sarah.Wood@SheffieldFA.com

The Wildcats Centres are predominately aimed at girls who have never played football before and are complete beginners.  They offer fun football based games to help girls develop basic fundamental movement skills, social skills and confidence.  Girls who have played football before may attend sessions but club football may be more appropriate for them.

Wildcats Centres are encouraged to charge a maximum of £3, however each Centre will be different.  There is no annual membership, so generally it’s pay-as-you-play.

Yes!  All Wildcats Centres will help girls find a local girls-only football team, if they are interested in playing for a team. There is no pressure for girls to play for a team but the option is there if they are ready.
