SHCFA Movember Football Tournament

SHCFA will host Movember football tournament in support of mens health and well-being

Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Around the world, on average we lose a man to suicide every minute of every day. Three out of four suicides are men. Too many are toughing it out and struggling alone.

On Tuesday 28th November SHCFA will host a football tournament in aid of the men’s health charity Movember based at Goodwin Sports Centre, Sheffield.

Taking part in the tournament are teams who compete within the County FA’s Good Mood League (GML).

The GML represents a competitive football opportunity for those who experienced mental ill health.  GML teams generally work in partnership with NHS foundation trusts, drug & alcohol rehabilitation services and homeless charities.  Clubs included within the Good Mood League include:

-          Rotherham United Inclusion (Rotherham United Community Foundation)

-          Carribean Sports Club FC (Phoenix Futures)

-          Club Doncaster Titans (Club Doncaster Rovers Foundation)

-          Brunsmeer Awareness (SUFC & NHS foundation Trust)

-          Oakwell Terriers (Barnsley Recovery College)

-          Shelley CFC (Creative Minds)

-          Chesterfield Inclusion (Chesterfield FC community trust)

Football is used as a tool to create informal support networks and friendships between participants who may have become socially isolated. Groups involved in the league provide a safe and structured environment for players to build self-confidence and become mentally resilient.

The outcome of this tournament is to raise the profile of the GML and really shout about the positive work that is been conducted by people from across this part of the County.
