School Festival proves a success in Sheffield

Last week Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA supported the well-attended girls’ football festival which was delivered by The Arches School Sports...

Around 100 girls from local primary schools came along to the superb facilities at St Georges Park, Thorncliffe to take part in a fun filled day of football activities.

The event showcased excellent partnership work with Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield FC and FA Skills coaches all delivering football sessions in the morning, whilst the afternoon saw 16 primary schools take part in a football festival.

As well as the sunshine making an appearance, we were also lucky enough to receive a visit from Sheffield FC Ladies, Carla Ward and development player Nikki Hogg.  Carla mixed with the girls during the day, answering questions about her career and encouraging girls to join a local club.  Carla and Nikki also handed out medals, souvenir bags, and trophies.  Sheffield FC Ladies also gave every girl a free ticket to their next home game against Oxford United Women which is taking place on Saturday 15th April, 4:00 pm kick off.

Sarah Wood, Football Development Officer at SHCFA attended the event and said “it was fantastic to see so many girls playing football and enjoying themselves.  A lot of girls had never played football before so it was great to give them information about their local girls’ team”.

“With the launch of The FA’s strategy for women and girls’ football, ‘Gameplan for Growth’ it is important that we celebrate and promote these types of opportunities and signpost girls to local football activities”.
