County Cup semi-final postponed
Hillsborough pitch to be preserved
Sheffield Wednesday would like to inform football supporters that the FA Youth County Cup semi-final between Yorkshire and Lancashire, due to take place on Saturday (February 6) at Hillsborough has been postponed following significant snowmelt and rainfall this week.
Recent weather has led to the pitch conditions being very wet and, with Sheffield Wednesday’s first team set to host Blackpool in the Championship on Tuesday (February 9), the club felt that it was necessary to preserve the playing surface ahead of this game.
Stadium operations manager at Hillsborough, John Rutherford, said: “With considerable rainfall forecast in the coming days it is vital that we do everything we can to ensure that the pitch is in the best possible condition for our next Championship match this coming Tuesday. Therefore we have postponed the FA Youth County Cup match and will be seeking an alternative date to host this fixture in the coming weeks.”
A referee inspected the pitch this morning and the mutual decision was taken by the official and Sheffield Wednesday Football club to postpone this game.
Sheffield & Hallamshire FA and Sheffield Wednesday will communicate the rearranged date for this fixture once it has been confirmed.
