Sheffield FC 2 – 0 Worksop Town
Vil Powell (27)
Gavin Smith (69)
Sheffield FC rounded off the final week of their 150th anniversary season with a 2 – 0 victory over Worksop Town FC, with the worlds oldest club lifting the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Senior Cup for the third time in four seasons.
Another pleasant evening welcomed both teams, along with supporting fans from both sides to Hillsborough, the home of Sheffield Wednesday. Sheffield FC started the game a little out of sorts allowing Worksop to create a number of chances, with their best spell of play coming in the first fifteen minutes.
Sheffield eventually organised themselves, and picked up their performance. This effectively limited any stop chance for Worksop to take the lead, after looking like the better side. On 27 minutes, Sheffield FC clinched a first goal, via a Chris Dolby cross which was perfectly placed for Vill Powell to head in at the far post, 0 – 1. Sheffield continued to attack the Worksop defence right into Half Time.
Sheffield came out of the break determined to hold onto their lead and add a few more goals. Sheffield continued to keep Worksop from getting back into the tie utilising their selection of skilful and able players, particularly in midfield. Sheffield sealed victory in the 69th Minute when Captain Gavin Smith fired a shot past Worksop goalkeeper, 0 – 2. Sheffield FC Manager, Dave McCarthy and his players ended a memorable and historical season with another trophy in cabinet, the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA Senior Cup.
