U18s Team Squad

Players selected for the representative team are the most promising and talented players from all the clubs within the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA region. 

Congratulations to the Representative U18s Boys Team on reaching the FA County Youth Cup Final 2010, the first time since last winning the trophy in 1964!

Name: Matt Dolan
Position: Striker
D/O/B: 25/04/92
Club: Athersley Recreation

'Dools' as he is affectionately known looks like a traditional target striker. However, he has much more to his game not only working as an excellent target man, but technically a very good player with excellent athleticism and heading ability, scoring some vital goals this season. Alongside this, Matt's incredible work rate and willingness to help team mates makes him the type of player his coaches and colleagues love having in the team as they know he will keep working hard to give them an 'out ball' and cause problems for the opposition no matter what.

Name: Jake Ball
Position: Goalkeeper
D/O/B: 02/01/92
Club: Chesterfield College

Jake is technically a very gifted goalkeeper who has played for the England Colleges team. His excellent agility and decision making alongside this technique makes him a great shot stopper and all round goalkeeper. His superb dedication and real thirst for learning and improving will help Jake achieve high levels in the game. Jake has made some top quality saves at vital times throughout the season, keeping his team mates in the game on a number of occasions with his performances.

Position: Left Midfield

Club: Wombwell Main

Jake is technically excellent and a very stylish player with an excellent range of passing. He has and excellent attitude towards all aspects of the game and is always willing to help out his defence, whilst also setting up and scoring some very important goals for the team this season. Jake always plays with a smile and is an ever present this season making the left midfield position his own, linking up well with his defenders and strikers alike. A great character within the team and often calming influence to team mates.

Position: Striker/Midfield

Club: Wombwell Main

Josh is technically one of the best players in what is a very strong squad with a superb first touch, whether playing in midfield or attack. The type of player coaching staff love working with Josh has a very clever footballing brain with the ability to get into areas defenders hate to go and having shown the occasional breathtaking piece of skill this season to create opportunities for himself or team mates. This has made him an essential part of the squad this season.

Name: Craig Aspinall
Position: Centre Midfield
D/O/B: 27/02/92
Club: Askern Villa

Craig is a very talented player who has been a driving force behind the success of the team this season. This has been recognised by scouts with Craig being closely monitored by a number of league clubs. He started as a school boy playing for Sheffield United and then Sheffield Wednesday Academies and is equally as happy playing as a defensive midfielder linking up play or in a more progressive role. Craig is currently the leading goal scorer this season.

Name: Josh Gibbons
Position: Centre Back/Full Back
D/O/B: 02/08/92
Club: Askern Villa

Josh's versatility has made him a very important player to Sheffield & Hallamshire this season having played in a number of positions across the whole back four and midfield. Josh has great pace and is technically very comfortable on the ball, defensively always solid whilst willing to break forward to support the team further up the pitch. Another player who has been vital to the squad this season and who plays the game with real enthusiasm and tremendous attitude towards his own game and those around him.

Position: Centre/Right Midfield

Club: Sheffield FC

Another very versatile player, Tod has played in a number of positions this season mainly across midfield, but also in defence. The former Mansfield Town and Boston United player is very fit and always full of energy and running. He willingly works box to box all day for his team. Tod has great determination to win the ball back when out of possession and with good technique uses the ball well when he wins it back setting the team up to drive forward.

Position: Full Back

Club: Sheffield FC

Ashley spent his schoolboy football career at professional clubs from the age of 9. After starting as a scholar at Scunthorpe United last Summer, the former Sheffield United Academy player quit the full time game at the beginning of this season. Defensively reliable Ashley has excellent technique and a superb left foot with great delivery both from open play and set pieces. He has set up a number of key goals this season and has made the left back spot his own with some very solid performances and that consistently high quality and stylish left foot.

Name: Nick Galloway
Position: Centre Back

Club: Sheffield FC

Team captain, Nick has been absolutely outstanding this season. He is a top quality centre half and has put in some match winning defensive performances. Nick is a tremendous header of the ball who is a real threat at set pieces and technically very strong, with a calm head when playing out from the back. Having spent time at Sheffield United Academy, Nick's superb displays have again created a lot of interest from league clubs this season. He has also weighed in with some important goals.

Name: Sam Barnsley
Position: Striker

Club: Sheffield FC

Sam is incredibly quick and athletic and has been in the top 4 boys nationally at 100 and 200 metres since the age of 12. Along side this Sam was at Scunthorpe United and had an outstanding goal scoring record of almost a goal a game at schoolboy level. Sam never fails to cause a problem for defenders with his remarkable pace and direct approach, he has scored some very important goals this season and will be a threat for the team during this season's cup run and can be a match winner given half a yard.

Name: Delano Stewart-Jones
Position: Striker
D/O/B: 02/11/91
Club: Sheffield FC

Delano is another very quick striker with superb technique, athleticism and agility. Having spent time at Nottingham Forest, Delano has a remarkable ability to ride tackles, ghost past people and make things happen in the final third. This has been a key reason the team has done so well this season and he has been monitored by a number of league clubs since coming into the squad. Delano has also scored a number of very important goals for the team this season.

Name: Michael Cuckson
Position: Centre/Full Back
D/O/B: 29/11/92
Club: Wickersley Youth

Michael is another highly versatile player having played across the back four and also in midfield this season. Athletically and technically very good, Michael forced his way into the squad and then team with some very solid and professional performances early in the season. Michael always quietly gets on with what ever is asked of him and is the kind of player managers can always rely on to put in a very good shift. A manager's player Michael will always give you consistency, wherever he is asked to play.

Club: Handsworth FC

Squad Captain Michael always leads by example. He is a traditional defender who has a real love of all aspects of defending, whether it's winning tackles, marking, winning headers he is a great captain and never fails to drive the team on with his determination and superb mental and physical strength. Formally Michael played at Sheffield United Academy as a schoolboy for a number of years and has a member of this squad for 3 seasons putting him amongst the most appearances of any boy in recent Sheffield & Hallamshire history.

Name: Lewis Carr
Position: Full Back
D/O/B: 09/06/93
Club: Handsworth FC

Younger brother of Michael and the third of 3 brothers from the Carr family to play for Sheffield & Hallamshire team in the last 5 years, Lewis is from exactly the same mould as both Michael and his older brother Andrew. He loves a tackle and all aspects of the defensive side of the game, relishing a battle with the attackers and another player with great determination to win and drive the team forward. Lewis also brings some real character to the dressing room, and keeps his team mates entertained on their toes.

Position: Centre Midfield

Club: Hallam FC

Kier is an all action central midfielder who is never far away from the action during a game. Having spent a number of years at Sheffield United Academy, Kier was incredibly unlucky not to be given a chance as a full time scholar. In addition to being a bundle of energy and enthusiasm, Kier is technically very good with a great ability link up play and get around the pitch. He has also weighed in with some vital goals this season, not least the winner in the semi final.

Club: Chesterfield College

Stephen is a dream for coaches to work with, with a real enthusiasm for learning and improving. He has excellent technical ability, good pace and agility and can play off the shoulder of defenders or as a target man. Stephen spent time at Sheffield United Academy as a boy and has an excellent scoring record for both his club and Sheffield & Hallamshire since coming into the squad. Another player who will work tirelessly for the team with great energy levels and enthusiasm.

Position: Midfield
D/O/B: 17/02/93
Club: Sheffield FC

Jake is another player with great versatility having played across the whole midfield and as a striker this season. Having played at Sheffield United Academy up to being 16 years old Jake is a technically very gifted player, with a superb range of passing and high quality delivery both in open play and from set pieces. Although he came into the squad quite late, Jake made an immediate impact scoring from direct free kicks in each of his first three games and creating excellent opportunities for team mates. Another great personality to have around the team

Name: Shaun Rutkowski
Position: Goalkeeper
D/O/B: 02/09/91
Club: Sheffield FC

Shaun was brought into the squad late as cover for the ever present Jake Ball after a string of outstanding performances for his club (Sheffield FC). The former Barnsley Academy player has excellent agility, decision making and athleticism and is technically a very good goalkeeper. Getting on with his job in a thoroughly professional and mature manner Shaun provides his defenders with a calming influence and great confidence that things are safe behind them.

Name: Joe Lumsden
Position: Striker
D/O/B: 28/01/92
Club: Bentley Pumas

Joe has played for both Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United at youth levels before suffering knee injury at the beginning of the current season. Joe has great potential and a bright future and is recovering well from his set back. Joe has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, great awareness in the box and eye for goal.
