1st4Sport Level 2 Certificate in First Aid for Sport 

To provide candidates with knowledge and understanding of first aid to enable them to provide appropriate care and manage illness and injuries sustained in sport. To enable candidates to provide quality and effective first aid care on the field and to be able to recognize and differentiate major from minor injury.

Who is this course for?

A foundation course covering the basic first aid management of injuries and illnesses commonly experienced in sport. It is aimed at personnel acting as manager, trainer, therapist or first aider for amateur and youth football and sports clubs, and for teachers responsible for school teams.

Course Duration: 13.5 Hours

Pre-requisites: Current recognised FA Emergency First Aid Certificate, First Aid Award or equivalent.

The course is 13.5 hours, both theory and practical elements

The course will cover the following subjects:

  • General principles of First Aid
  • First Aid priorities
  • Contents of the First Aid bag
  • Infection control and barriers
  • General anatomy and surface identification
  • Signs of injury
  • Degrees of injury
  • 'On field' injury assessment
  • Signs, symptoms and First Aid treatment of various illnesses
  • Signs, symptoms and First Aid treatment of various injuries

Practical:

There are practical elements to the course. Student must appreciate that the course contains practical components where they will work with other course members (models) for palpation and anatomical identification.

Assessment:

1. Candidates are required to have received the appropriate training in the protection of children from abuse. Those involved in the sport of Association Football in England will be required to have attended The FA Safeguarding Children workshop.
2. 3 practical scenarios demonstrating knowledge & understanding across the range of the practical syllabus.
3. A final, independently assessed, 30 minute short answer written paper.
