Match Report:
Sheffield & Hallamshire FA stand proudly at the top of the FA Futsal Regional League North table (on goal difference) after a convincing opening day victory against Grimsby YMCA.

Grimsby made Sheffield work for their victory in the first half, as the Grimsby goalkeeper made an impressive start with solid handling and some important saves. Grimsby opened the scoring with their first significant attempt on goal; a powerful shot from a tight angle found its way into the roof of the net.

Sheffield soon levelled the scoring with a well-worked team goal, but a low driven strike from just outside of the penalty area saw Grimsby re-take the lead.

Sheffield, with many of the squad playing together for the first time, were beginning to gel and their quality told during a second half display that saw them score seven times without reply. The stand-out goal in the second half was an excellent solo effort by Wheatley-O’Neill who beat two Grimsby players before calmly slotting past Graves in the Grimsby goal.

Match Report:

Sheffield & Hallamshire Futsal Team kept the momentum going in the second week of the FA Futsal League North, notching up a second win over Leeds based FC Barsa at the weekend (22nd Feb 2009) with a very healthy score line.

The match started off pretty evenly, with both sides passing fluidly and creating a few chances. Sheffield & Hallamshire utilised these passing skills, and kept having a pop with the long ball on goal without reward.

Perseverance eventually paid off, and Sheffield & Hallamshire opened the score sheet with two goals, both tap ins after getting the better of the FC Barsa defence. And the goals just kept on hitting the back of the net from there on in.

FC Barsa made a brave fight to get themselves back in the game at the end of the first half with two goals to pull the score back to 5 – 2 at the break.

Sheffield & Hallamshire seemingly had the game wrapped up before the whistle to commence the second half blew, but Futsal is a funny old game and anything can happen.

Alas for FC Barca this seemed to be wishful thinking and Sheffield & Hallamshire easily cruised into double figures. FC Barsa did manage to get a further consolation goal in the second half.

Sheffield & Hallamshire Futsal team face stronger opposition next in the form of Middlesbrough who remain unbeaten in the league drawing with Sheffield FC win the first game and beating Loughborough in their second.
