Ability Counts League

The Sheffield & Hallamshire Ability Counts League is looking for new teams for season 2010/11. The Ability Counts League provides a pan-disability football fixture programme for a range of football ability levels.

The league boasted 23 teams for 2009/10 and there is a guaranteed a minimum of six fixtures over the course of the new season, which runs from October 2010 through to May 2011.

All games are played centrally on artificial grass pitches at five quality venues across South Yorkshire. Teams can expect to play approximately once every 3-4 weeks, with all fixtures taking place on Sunday afternoons and are officiated by FA qualified referees.

Last season the League operated four adult male divisions and one adult female division. The League will be starting an Under 16 Male, an Under 16 Female and Under 12 Mixed sections next season. Female and Youth teams play 5-a-side; Adult Male teams play 7-a-side at higher divisions and 5-a-side at lower divisions. Sheffield & Hallamshire FA would like to hear from new Clubs who would be interested in joining the League and are particularly keen to hear from Youth teams and Adult Female teams.

The Sheffield & Hallamshire Ability Counts League links into The FA’s National Disability Strategy and as such divisional winners have the opportunity to progress through to regional and national finals.

Chris Bly, Senior Football Development Officer at Sheffield & Hallamshire FA said
“We have made significant strides over the last few seasons to develop a League which provides an enjoyable experience for players, officials and spectators alike.

We pride ourselves on the professional way that the Sheffield & Hallamshire Ability Counts League is organised and the number of teams that we have is testament to the quality experience that we offer.

Like any League we want to continue to improve, and of particular importance is the recruitment of new youth teams and adult female teams. In addition, we also welcome new adult male teams to what is a flourishing section of our League”.

The League is free to enter, although Clubs will need to affiliate to their parent County Football Association. The closing date for entries is Monday 13th September 2010.
